The objective of the corporate in-house Manual Handling Train the Trainer course is to provide company delegates from most sectors (other than patient handling) with the practical and technical knowledge to undertake and deliver effective manual handling training sessions in their own workforce.
Who should attend?
Managers / Supervisors and Safety Representatives from all organisations wishing to deliver their own in house manual handling courses.
Course Duration: 1.5 days
Duration is slightly dependant on the numbers of delegates on the course (larger numbers will take longer due to time for delivering their short 5-10 min presentations) and their previous experience and level of manual handling knowledge.
Course Numbers: Maximum of 12 per course

Manual Handling Train the Trainer
Course Content:
- What is manual handling?
- Manual Handling Law.
- Nature, frequency and type of injuries within the industry. High risk sectors and hazards which contribute to the injury rates.
- Types of injuries associated with poor handling.
- Who is most prone to injury?
- The structure and function of the human spine, including vertebrae and discs.
- Making the link between back injuries and typical handling techniques.
- Safe handling technique best practice. (The importance of centre of gravity, leverage and weigh limits. Team handling, muscle groups and problem loads.
- The principles of safe handling.
- Practical exercise in lifting.
- Manual handling risk assessment.
- What do you as trainers need to help you?
- Training. (Course design, preparation and delivery. Typical problem issues and how to deal with them).
- Practical training preparation.
- Assessment
Multiple choice test.
Short presentation (5-10 mins) on a certain aspect of manual handling.
Delegates:
All delegates should be comfortable at standing and confidently speaking in front of a number of their colleagues. Subject knowledge, skill and full confidence on Manual Handling will come with experience of delivering training during the course.
Certificates:
SMSE Certificates will be issued on successful completion of the course.
Dress Code:
Delegates are requested to dress in appropriate clothing for undertaking practical lifting exercises.
Medical Conditions:
The course will include certain elements that should not be undertaken by pregnant employees or persons with existing medical conditions that could be made worse by lifting.
